The Guide

A field guide to the channels you never turned on.

This is the reasoning we use on a first read of a software company's growth. You can run most of it yourself with a spreadsheet and an honest hour. If you would rather we ran it, ask for a Reachable Buyer Map.

Step A

Trace where your last deals actually started.

Take the deals you closed recently. Next to each, write the very first touch. Not the demo. The moment the buyer first heard your name.

If nearly every line says a referral, a partner or a trade show, you have a network. That is a strength. It is also a ceiling, because nobody on your side decides how big it gets.

Step B

Name the idle channels out loud.

  • Outbound is idle when nobody owns a list of target accounts, or when messages go out that no person on your side has read.
  • Content is idle when your site answers questions about you, and none of the questions your buyer asks before they shortlist.
  • Referrals are idle when they happen to you instead of being asked for, tracked and thanked.
  • Paid is idle when it was switched off after a short test that never had a clear question behind it.
Step C

Turn on the channel you can control first.

We usually start with outbound. You pick the accounts. You set the pace. And every real reply teaches you what buyers care about, which is exactly what your content should be about.

The rule that makes it work: each message is written for one person, after someone has read about their company. If a message could go to anyone, it should go to no one.

Step D

Get found when the buyer asks someone else.

Buyers now ask colleagues, search engines and AI assistants for a shortlist before they ever reply to a seller. Around outbound we build the layer that answers them: a site that answers the questions buyers really ask, press that puts you in the conversation, short video that explains what you do, and search work so you appear on the list when an assistant is asked who to call.

Step E

Decide who owns it before anyone builds it.

Ask one question of any partner, us included. If we part ways, what stays with you? If the answer is less than the playbook, the data, the messages and people trained to run them, keep looking.
